The Centre for Social Work Practice (CSWP) is re-launching as a charitable company at the end of September at the Tavistock and Portman Clinic in London.
Led by Professor Andrew Cooper (a former external examiner to the MSc Mental Health Social Work programme at the Institute of Psychiatry) since 2006, CSWP aims to promote relationship-based practice within social work. It is committed to ensuring that reflective practice, with its focus on relationships, takes its rightful place not only in social work practice, but also in professional development and in the curriculum at all levels of qualifying and post-qualifying training.
CSWP is a collaborative network and its work is invaluable in moving social work away from death by paperwork towards increased engagement with people and their relationships. It is supported by Professor Eileen Munro (another former external examiner of the programme I led at the IoP) whose report, which is currently shaping children’s social work, is imbued with its values.
